Thinking of taking the kids sledding or going out for some cross-country skiing?

The Federal Government in the DC area is closed tomorrow, 12/21 (at a minimum) and Fairfax County Public Schools are closed for the entire week.

I say go for it!

Head on over to one of the 400+ Fairfax County Parks for some great sledding and skiing.

The Best Sledding Hills according to the Fairfax County’s website are Mason District, Jefferson Manor Park, Cardinal Forest Park , Greenway Heights Park & Westgate Park.

Other good sledding parks include Brookfield Park, Burke Lake Park, Canterbury Woods, Crooked Creek Park, Franconia Park, George Mason Park, Lakeside Park, Marie Butler Leven Preserve, Nottoway Park, Stringfellow Park, Surrey Square Park and Wood Glen Lake Park.

Personally, I would include Roundtree Park / Holmes Run Valley Stream as terrific parks with fabulous sledding hills and some pretty good cross-country skiing trails. And, you can get there just on the other side of Sleepy Hollow Rd. Very close to us.

According to the Fairfax County website, some of the Best Cross-Country Skiing Trails can be found at the following parks:

Accuweather is predicting a high of 33 degrees with sunny skies tomorrow so bundle up and enjoy!
