Did you know that there are several bus services that will take you from the Washington DC area to New York City for cheap?
I didn’t.
In fact, I just learned this last week!
My family and I are taking a quick trip to New York City this week and are booked on Vamoose – only because it was the 1st bus that I heard would take us to NYC virtually non-stop.
However, while talking with another friend about our upcoming trip she told me about MegaBus and BoltBus; both of which are less expensive than Vamoose and I hear that they’re all nice, clean buses.
Vamoose offers daily service from Rosslyn to Midtown Manhattan with only one stop in Bethesda, MD. The drop off in New York is at Penn Station (31st St & 7th Ave.). Tickets are $30 per person each way.
Bolt Bus also offers daily service to NYC; departing from 10th St N.W. and H St. N.W. (north of 700 10th St. N.W.). They have two drop points in New York – near Penn Station at 33rd St & 7th Ave or 6th Ave. between Grand & Watts. Tickets are $17.50 per person each way.
MegaBus offers daily service as well – departing from a parking lot at the intersection of 9th St. N.W. and H St. N.W. Drop off is at 31st St. (near Penn Station). Ticket prices vary based on date and time of departure. They sell a limited number of seats each day for $1.00 one-way (what a deal!) otherwise fares ranged from $8.00 to $23.00 each way; with most seats costing between $8.00 and $9.00 each way.
On my next trip to NYC, I’m going to check out MegaBus. What about you? Have you tried these bus services? Leave your thoughts/opinions in the comment section below.

I’ve been a loyal Vamooser for years. There are reasons they’re still in business even at $30… Customer service, being well staffed and punctuality are just some of them.
