About Contractors and Services
Living in an older community as we do, finding contractors and services that provide satisfaction is a popular, yet often frustrating activity. Fortunately there is some general guidance and a lot of local experience to draw on.
Selecting a Contractor contains general information provided by the Fairfax County Office of Public Affairs that may be useful in your selection of a contractor. Another good resource is the Virginia Department of Professional and Occupational Regulation (DPOR)
There are currently two ways to get community residents' recommendations on contractors and service providers using the internet. First, the community listserve, Lake Link , provides a way to share contractor information among those who subscribe to this free community based e-mail service (Lake Link information). List members, currently over 600, frequently request and receive recommendations from other members. These messages are available in the searchable Lake Link archives.
Second, using information from the Lake Link and other sources, the Lake Link Contractor List is a listing of individual experiences with contractors and service providers in our area. That list may be browsed and searched this area of the website. If you would like to recommend a new contractor to be added to the Contractor List, please send the request to Sarah Mattingly.
The Sea Wall Guide [PDF], "Refections on a Sea Wall Renewal Project, Lake Barcroft 2004", was prepared by Mary Laird Silva and Peter Silvia. It is "offered to the Lake community in an effort to help our neighbors avoid having to experience the same dauntingly steep learning curve as we did with our sea wall and dock construction."
