Earth Day is for Gardeners of all Agespawpaw tree

  • Tree Planting at Beach 5 from 2: 30 - 3:00 p.m.  Come early and learn how to plant a tree and bare root seedlings.  We will be planting several trees and bareroot seedlings on the Beach 5 peninsula to give back to Mother Earth and to our Community.  Please join us at 2:30.
     
  •  Join an Ambassador from Audubon at Home and learn ways to attract wildlife to your garden.  Find out how you can certify your own backyard as a Wildlife Sanctuary; this is a great summer project for the whole family! Program begins at 3:30.
     
  • Tour the award winning RPA (Resource Protection Area) Demonstration Garden with Lake Barcroft Master Gardeners and get ecosavvy answers to all your gardening questions. Sign up for handouts on a variety of garden topics. 3 - 5 p.m.
     
  • Join Cindy Gimbel, Director of Green Spring's Children's Programs, from 3:30 - 4:00 p.m. to learn about Earthworms, nature's own recyclers, and learn how they can help your garden.
     
  • Plants, Plants, Plants! Find a fabulous selection of native perennials, shrubs, and trees that are looking for new homes! A small donation is requested.  A few of our special offerings include:
  1. Spicebush with spicily fragrant leaves and bark, early spring flowers, and fall fruit that   attracts a variety of birds to your garden, and if that isn't enough, it is the host of the beautiful and rare spicebush swallowtail butterfly. 
  2. Or try a beautiful Red Twigged dogwood to spice up your winter landscape and attract birds and butterflies.
  3. Or be the first to own an incredible PawPaw tree with the largest edible berry in North America. This lovely small tree is the larval host for the rare zebra swallowtail. 
  4. Or plant a giant Sycamore that can grow up to 6' a year and light up a winter landscape with its gorgeous white bark.
  5. Also majestic Black Oaks that thrive naturally in challenging dry soils, or the lovely small Ironwood with sinuous gray bark. 
  6. Also beautiful perennials from the RPA garden like: Blue Phlox, Goldenrod, Beebalm, Wild Bergamot, Black-eyed Susans and much more.
