Learn About FREE Boat Sharing Program at Open House June 3 (rain date is June 4th)

Lake Barcroft’s Boat Sharing Program is hosting an Open House on June 3 (rain date June 4), 1 PM, at Beach 4.  Learn how you can access free kayaks, canoes and paddleboards all summer long. The 22 boats divided among beaches 2, 3 and 4 will meet the needs of 80 households.

John Shapard who created the program, now in its second year, will discuss what you need to know get started, including a review of the boat sharing inventory which can be viewed online; how to use the lock system; the best way to remove a boat and its paddles from the rack; how to enter the water; how to remove the boat from the water; and replace the boat on the rack. Additional topics will include guest life jackets at beach 4; guest waivers; how to navigate the lake; and boating safety.

If you are inexperienced on the water, it may seem daunting to get started. The boat sharing project has enlisted experienced boaters as part of its new buddy initiative. You will be paired with an experienced kayaker, canoer or paddleboarder to get you started.
