Jr. Lifeguard Camp Begins

Jul 10, 2023 - 11:30am

The program is a 10-day water safety event designed for kids ages 11-14 who are looking for a fun lake activity that goes beyond swimming. Junior Guards will learn community water safety, boat safety, open water lifeguarding, CPR, and first aid. Built upon the curriculum of the American Red Cross Guard Start and centered around professional fundamentals endorsed by the United States Lifesaving Association, the program will consist of classroom instruction, swimming, physical fitness activities, games, and more.

Junior Guards will not only gain important water confidence but will also learn prerequisite skills for babysitting and lifeguard courses. Upon successful completion of LB's Jr. LifeguardProgram, participants will earn Red Cross certifications in both CPR and First Aid, along with LB’s Jr Lifeguard Certification. They will also become Junior Lifeguard members of the Barcroft Beach Lifeguard USLA Chapter.

The 5th annual Jr. Lifeguard program will happen this summer with a similar structure as in the past, however we will begin at 11:30 and end at 4 as an attempt to avoid evening thunderstorms. All classes will be conducted outside. Enrollment will be broken into small learning groups that rotate between skill and activity stations run by LB lifeguards and instructors. The USLA certified program will be principally taught by Water Safety Supervisor Kevin Hardy and Water Safety Instructor Bobby Broome. Other LB lifeguards/instructors will also be present to provide assistance.
