LB Woman's Club Easter Egg Hunt

Mar 31, 2018 - 11:30am
FAQ’s About the 2018 Lake Barcroft Woman’s Club Easter Egg Hunt

Q: When is the Easter Egg Hunt?

A: It’s a little early this year….it’s coming up soon, on Saturday, March 31!  This annual event starts promptly at 11:30 a.m. at Beach 5 (on Waterway Drive near the intersection with Rusticway Drive).  (For those of you who’ve been in LB for a while, yes, it’s starting a little later than usual.)

Q: What actually happens at the Easter Egg Hunt and what age groups can join in the fun?

A: The Easter Egg Hunt is for children ages 6 months up to 12 years old….no, we don’t card the kids, it’s on an honor system.  The Hunt starts promptly at 11:30 a.m. and the children take delight in finding as many of the hidden eggs as they can.  The plastic eggs are filled with Jelly Beans.  There is a Golden Egg hidden in each of the four sections, and the finders of the golden eggs receive a prize from the Easter Bunny.

Q: There’s really an Easter Bunny?

A: Of course!  Each year the Easter Bunny comes to our Easter Egg Hunt, and will get there around 11:15 a.m.

Q: Prizes for the Golden Eggs?

A: Yes, each finder of a Golden Egg gets a $15 Target gift certificate.

Q: How can 6-month-old babies and toddlers find eggs?  Don’t the older children find them first?

A: Nope. Beach 5 is divided into four sections for four different age groups with Easter eggs hidden throughout.  Section 1 is the sand section of the beach for ages 6 months up to 3 years.  Each child in this section may have one parent accompany him or her to help. Sections 2 and 3 are on the grass peninsula part of the beach.  Section 2 is for ages 4 and 5 who may also have one parent accompany them.  Section 3 is for ages 6 and 7 who are on their own (parents may accompany them, but no help in locating the eggs).  And Section 4 is the wooded area for ages 8 to 12 (no parental help).

Q: Will there be enough eggs for each child to get some?

A: We certainly hope so!  We’ll hide over 3,000 of them!

Q: 3,000 eggs!  You’re kidding me!  Who hides the eggs?

A: Funny you should ask! Volunteers from the Woman’s Club and the Lake Barcroft Community hide them.  Usually 20+ people will spend up to two hours that morning hiding the eggs.

Q: So you think all the children will get some eggs?

A: Absolutely!  As more and more children have moved into Lake Barcroft, we keep increasing the number of eggs.  Almost certainly, all children will get some eggs to put in their baskets.

Q: Basket?  Should each child bring his or her own basket?

A: Yes.

Q: How long does the Easter Egg Hunt last?

A: It’s a fast hunt—15 minutes or less.  Best to arrive before 11:30 a.m. because it’s over by 11:45 a.m.!

Q: Can I bring my Cousin Clem and his 3 kids if they visit that weekend?

A: Of course, this is a family event!  It is open to all Lake Barcroft residents and their guests.  And it's a free event sponsored by the Woman’s Club.

Q: Can I bring my dog?

A: Sorry, no dogs.  Too many small children and too many plastic eggs …

Q: So the Lake Barcroft Woman’s Club puts on the Easter Egg Hunt each year?

A: Yes, for the past 30+ years!

Q: Are you kidding!?  Really 30+ years?

A: Yes!  Jeannie Meyer has organized this for many of those years.  (Long-time resident, the late Joan Doupe, was also in the mix - this was her passion!)

Q: What if it rains?  Is there a rain date?

A: Unfortunately  not.  This event is on in a drizzle or slight rain.  But if it is pouring rain, unfortunately there is no rain date.  Keep your fingers crossed!

Q: How can I help?

A: Great question!  If you’re too old to search for eggs, you can help the Woman’s Club hide them that morning!  Jeannie Meyer needs 20 volunteers to hide eggs at 9:30 a.m., then another 12 at 11:00 a.m., first to direct children to their age appropriate areas, then to walk and drop eggs behind small children whose baskets are empty.  (These volunteers would need to wear something with big pockets so they can walk around slipping eggs out of their pockets near the children who need to find eggs as the hunt is drawing to a close.)  If you can help, please email Jeannie at jeanniemeyer@verizon.net!

Thank You, and we all look forward to seeing you at this fun, growing Lake Barcroft family event!
